For relocating a lost mobile phone we can use a technology which is very efficient and known as a sniffer. This setup requires a base station and a device. Here the base station is known as a sniffer. It has a transceiver part in it.

The operating frequency generated by the sniffer is about 900MHz which is much different from the usual frequency ranges used for the same operation. This comes under the VHF frequency range which needs an oscillator circuit. At this frequency range, there is a need for cooling the circuit. So the base station should be designed accordingly. It should also be a low-power transmitter as mobiles use low-power transmitters. This helps to reduce the interference which can occur otherwise.

The technology behind Sniffers:

Sniffer contains a transceiver that operates at an entirely different range of frequency from that of the ordinary ones usually used, which will stop any kind of interference with the other devices in that same base frequency area. There will be a base station and the mobile will be communicating with this station.

Here there is a Base Transceiver station that comes in between the communication between mobile and the mobile telephone switching office (MTSO). Communication is done only after the verification of the SIM which has the International Mobile Subscriber Identifier included in it.

How does Sniffer work?

Here the user is authorized by verifying the IMSI number verification technology. After this, the handset has to be verified or authorized which is done by checking on the Equipment Identifier Register. This will have the IMEI number of the phone which is lost and if there is the presence of a signal, then the communication between the devices will get started.

The IMEI number of the mobile phone which is lost is reported to the service provider. The MTSO will have a record of all the IMEI numbers and the IMSI number will have the information on the lost phone’s location.

The communication between the devices will lead to the detection of the Information of the Base Transceiver Station at MTSO. The sniffer technology is started into action based on the information found. Here we feed the information which is detected by the MTSO to the primary memory of the sniffer and it will start its work.

The sniffer will use a frequency that is different from that of the base station, which will result in the disconnection of the base station with the mobile phone which is lost.

Bottom Line

This occurred because of a signal containing a request for this action is sent by the MTSO. The phone which is lost will try to connect with the BTS but that won’t happen due to the lack of authorization. As the sniffer device starts its action, the lost device will get connected with the sniffer frequency as it has the authorization power. And we can get back our lost device. Here the importance of technology is clearly visible. Even though all these processes seem rather complicated, it is a very efficient method to find your lost phone.
